SATURDAY SCHOOL / CREDIT RECOVERY

Saturday School is designed to supplement the current ISS program, to provide an opportunity for credit recovery.  Saturday School will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. and will end at 1:00 p.m.  Parents are encouraged to pick up promptly at 1:00 p.m.

Students must be on time; the doors will shut at 9 a.m. and no one will be admitted after that time.  All student conduct rules will be strictly enforced.  Any misbehavior may result in the student being dismissed. If a student decides to leave or is asked to leave, no time will be counted for that day.  A beginning date and all other dates for Saturday School will be announced. Students assigned to Saturday School and fail to show up may be denied future rights to attend Saturday School.  Four class periods may be recovered for credit in a given Saturday unless otherwise assigned by the appeal committee.   Students are strongly encouraged to make up missed class periods BEFORE they exceed the 18-day limit.  If an attendance appeal is required, credit approval may be contingent upon Saturday School attendance and teacher approval of completed work.  Students seeking credit recovery are required to attend the entire 4-hour time.  Saturday Schools will be scheduled on an as needed basis and will be announced in advance.  Students wishing for credit recovery need to meet with the ISS coordinator to schedule a date and receive the credit recovery contract. Students are required to turn work completed in Saturday School to their teacher for approval.  Completion of their work is required for credit recovery.

Students also need to check with the attendance secretary for verification that the teacher submitted the Saturday School contract and had it placed in their file.  Students may serve a maximum of 8 Saturday Schools per year for discipline reasons.  Assignment of Saturday School for disciplinary reasons is equivalent to ISS if the student is involved in VHSL activities.   Students or parents may opt for Saturday School with administration’s approval.
