Facilities

Staff in the Facilities and Planning Department operate, maintain and repair approximately 2 million square feet of school division facilities on approximately 570 acres of property throughout the county. The department’s focus is to accomplish emergency, preventive, routine, and predictive maintenance to ensure the operational effectiveness of facilities. The department manages all planning, design, renovation, and construction projects, as well as facilities services contracts.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on April 30, 2010, and construction is now underway for a new Price’s Fork Elementary School in the Blacksburg Strand with completion expected during the fall of 2011.

Design is underway for a new high school and a renovated middle school in the Auburn Strand. Construction will begin in September, 2011. The new high school is scheduled for completion in 2013. The renovation (with additions) project on the existing high school is scheduled for completion in 2014, and will open as the new Auburn Middle School.

Design is also underway for a new high school in the Blacksburg Strand. Construction will begin in September, 2011, and is scheduled for completion in 2013. The new location is on Price’s Fork Road adjacent to the new Bill Brown Stadium. This will be the first time in almost forty years that Blacksburg High School will share a location with her stadium.

Our custodial division works diligently to keep schools healthy and clean. All staff members assist the Energy Management program by making sure all lights and equipment are turned off when not in use.
