What you need to know for 2011-12:

Standards of Learning
All of our mathematics instruction will be based on the 2009 Standards of Learning
(Grades K-8; Algebra I; Geometry; Algebra, Functions, and Data Analysis; Algebra II).
See VA Superintendent's Memo #236-11 for additional information.

       Algebra I and Algebra II
All teachers should review the VDOE Technical Assistance Documents for Algebra I Standard A.9

       and Algebra II Standard AII.11.

SOL Testing
- Beginning in Fall 2011, all Mathematics SOL tests will assess only the 2009 Standards of Learning.
- New SOL Testing Blueprints have been implemented with revised Reporting Categories (note the
  significant changes in 5th Grade).

- The Annual Measurable Objective (AMO - the pass rate for meeting AYP) for Mathematics is 90%.

- The Mathematics VGLA has been phased out and replaced with the online
Virginia Modified Achievement Standards Test (VMAST) for Grades 3-8 and Algebra I.
- There will be no 2011 mathematics test items released
this year.

       Grades 3-5
       - The Grade 3 SOL Mathematics test is no longer a K-3 test (it assesses only the Grade 3 SOL).
       - The Grades 3-5 SOL Mathematics tests will include field testing of the non-multiple choice

Technology Enhanced Items (TEI).

        Grades 6-8 and EOC
        - The Technology Enhanced Items will be "operational" (i.e., they will count).
        - New formula sheets have been developed for the Grades 6-8, Alg. I, Geom., and Alg. II tests.
        - We have expanded our benchmark testing to include all Alg. I, Geom., and Alg. II students.

Textbooks

We are fully implementing the new textbooks adopted for Grades K-5 (HM Math Expressions)
and Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II (Prentice Hall) as our primary instructional resources.
