Redistricting Status Update

Posted on: January 30, 2012

On January 24, the Redistricting Committee reviewed the first set of draft maps for potential new attendance zone boundaries for Montgomery County Public Schools.  Based on input from the committee, revisions are currently being made to the initial maps so that they may be provided to the community for additional input.  The revised maps will be available to the public by February 13.

The first opportunity to provide input on the proposed maps will be at the community dialogue meeting on Thursday, February 16, at 6 p.m. at Christiansburg Middle School in the cafeteria.  Citizens are encouraged to attend the community dialogue as it will provide those in attendance with a better understanding of the proposed attendance boundaries including awareness of the multiple factors that were considered for each possibility. This date was originally publicized as February 15, but was recently rescheduled.

Following the community dialogue meeting, a survey will be available online and in schools for the community to provide input on the proposed attendance boundary maps.  The committee recommendations and community survey results will be considered by the School Board as they make boundary decisions.   Additional dates of importance are:

  • March 15 – DeJong-Richter will present a Redistricting Update to the School Board at a special work session
  • March 20 – School Board to approve a draft map for advertising of a public hearing
  • April 3 – Public Hearing on the proposed redistricting map
  • April 3 – School Board may approve new boundary lines for 2012-2013
