On Thursday, September 8, earthwork will commence at Auburn High School in preparation for school construction. Often referred to as the moving of dirt, earthwork prepares the land for construction. At Auburn High School the work will take approximately two months, followed by foundations and steel framing.
“The first thing citizens will see is a silt fence to assist with erosion and sediment control,” said Dan Berenato, director of facilities. “Once those controls are in place, we will bring out bulldozers and other large equipment to begin leveling the surface.”
Earthwork at Blacksburg High School is expected to begin soon, and will also last approximately two months.
The architectural designs for both buildings are still in development. The earthwork contracts are based on the site plans approved by the Montgomery County School Board earlier this year.
Both buildings remain on schedule to open for occupancy in the fall of 2013.
