The message below was sent to parents within Montgomery County Public Schools regarding school safety.
Good afternoon. This is Montgomery County Public Schools calling with a message about student safety.
Like many around the nation, MCPS shares in the sorrows of the Connecticut community this week. Each day in Montgomery County Schools, we focus on safety while we educate our students. Every school building in the division has a crisis plan that is reviewed and updated yearly. Crisis drills are also conducted throughout the year to help our students and staff members know what the best course of action is in an emergency situation.
Many of you may have noticed increased security in our school buildings on Friday and again today. As a part of our continued partnership with local law enforcement agencies, there will be additional police vigilance throughout the week to support the safety and security of our students and staff members.
There are trained staff members at every school to help if a child needs additional support during this time. If you feel your child needs extra support as they return to school this week, please contact their school.
Additional resources for parents in talking to their children about this situation are available at:
Our thoughts are with the families in Connecticut affected by this tragedy.
Thank you for your support of Montgomery County Schools.
