The Communication group met twice in 2015. Staff members have continued their work and the group will meet again in the spring. We created a comprehensive communication plan surrounding the change in School Start Times. Our implementation is scheduled to start very soon. While we communicated with parents using School Messenger when the board first made this decision, we know that there is more work to do to ensure that every student, every parent, and every staff member knows about the change and that the community at large is informed.
Our implementation method includes a variety of tactics. We know that it will take more than a phone call and an email to inform our stakeholders about this change. We will use report card inserts, mailers home to parents and community awareness campaigns to inform about the change.
As the committee met, we determined that it was important to do more than tell people that the school schedules will change – though that is the most important message. Some of our communication will involve why the change occurred and the multiple benefits of changing school start times, including academic performance and student safety.
We are ready to communicate this change to our community and know that we will be successful in doing so.
