The Start Time-School Nutrition Implementation Group has met twice, on September 24th, and October 8th. Discussion revolved around the challenges SNP would face in the preparation and delivery of the School Breakfast Program meal under many different circumstances. The scenarios included delayed school openings, block schedules, homeroom periods, late bus arrivals, student tardiness, morning workouts for athletic programs, and morning club meetings. Other questions included possible affects on SNP staffing, and meal preparation time requirements. The group agreed that the implementation of the Grab N’ Go Breakfast and Second Chance Breakfast will alleviate many of the breakfast meal service challenges created when the school opening is delayed due to bad weather, or an early release pushes the lunch meal forward. We feel that simple collaboration will provide solutions to any challenge we encounter and that the students in Montgomery County will continue to benefit from the uninterrupted services provided by School Nutrition Programs.
