H drive
School server space is limited. Be sure to copy any pictures and video files you wish to keep
onto a CD.
Email
Please delete emails you no longer need and clear out your folders (especially Spam and Deleted folders if you have them). If you have pictures saved on your email, please copy them to a CD or flash drive. Remember, once something is deleted, it is gone.
Remember to logoff (by clicking on “Log Off”) of email when not using it; do not leave it open unattended.
Software Purchasing
Please contact your TRT before purchasing any software. Technology needs to check to be sure it is compatible with the school’s computers and the network.
Computers and Monitors
At the end of the day, leave classroom and lab computers on and turn the monitors off. The maintenance update is done at night. The computers should turn off automatically after the maintenance is complete.
It has come to our attention that the use of non-instructional computer games has become widespread. This usage impacts network resources district-wide. For example, if you notice slowness while using email, it could be due to gaming anywhere within MCPS.
Listening to audio or watching video via the Internet is known as streaming. Like gaming, this impacts network resources district-wide. If you access United Streaming in your instruction, be sure to save the video to your h drive rather than stream it live.
TRTs (Technology Resource Teachers)
Each school has a TRT who will assist teachers with integration of technology in the classroom, train teachers to use technology in an effective manner and assist with curriculum development as it relates to educational technology. Please contact your TRT for assistance with technology integration. TRTs are teachers too – each one has several years of experience as a classroom teacher.
If you have any questions, please contact your TRT
