Congratulations

 

After many years of dedicated service to public education, Susan Lester is retiring from the MCPS Technology Department.  Good Luck, Susan!  We will miss you and wish you all the best.

 

New Email Upgrade

 

A new email upgrade will be implemented during the Holiday Break.  It will look different and be more user-friendly.  Your username and password will remain the same.  All saved email, folders, address book information, etc. will be transferred as is.  Your TRT will be available in January to answer questions and provide support as needed.  

 

Changes in Spam Procedure

 

In the Spring, we implemented a SPAM folder for each email user.  Due to the increase in the amount of SPAM we have recognized the need to purge the folder each week rather than once a month.  The SPAM folder will now be purged every Friday at 6:00 p.m.

 

Best Practices

 

Computer -

·         Always log off of your email and Novell when not in use

·         Never share or post your username or password

  • At the end of the day, turn your monitor off and leave the computer on

·         When possible, download Internet audio and video files as opposed to streaming live

·         Back up audio, video clips, and large graphic files on CDs rather than store them permanently on your “H” drive

·         Keep e-mail folder content under 20MB

 

Printer -

·         Avoid using your printer as a copier

·         Rather than printing an entire webpage, copy and paste selections into another document

 

 

New Moodle Workshop

 

Due to the high number of participants in the beginning Moodle courses, we are offering an additional Intermediate Moodle workshop.  The next “intermediate training” is being offered on Thursday, January 25, 2007, from 4:15-6:15.  Enroll now!
