Novell & Email accounts

Official, legal names must be used for all email and Novell accounts.  This should match the name currently used by the MUNIS/payroll system.  If your legal name does not currently match your email & Novell account names, please contact your TRT.  If the change is not made, your accounts and contents run the risk of being deleted next summer.

Email

Please review the MCPS Acceptable Use/Email policy at the following link: http://policy.mcps.org/Section_6_ARTICLE_III_Policy_6-3.13_TECHNOLOGY_USE.htm.   This policy contains important user information regarding privacy matters, FERPA, etc.  Please also note that mailbox sizes should not exceed 20 megabytes.  Remember to delete unneeded messages in your email box, including those in folders, on a weekly basis.  Also, if you decide to change your email password, it will not change your Novell password.

Spam

Your email Spam folder will be deleted on the 28th of each month.  Don’t forget to look in your Spam folder to see if there are any emails you want to read or keep.

Computers – on or off?

At the end of the day, please leave classroom and lab computers on and turn the monitors off.  The maintenance update is done at night.  The computers should turn off automatically after the maintenance is complete.  If your computer is on in the morning when you arrive, please put in a technology work order to have this situation checked out.

Technology Survey

Thanks so much to those of you who have returned your technology survey.  These surveys have been extremely helpful in planning for staff development and addressing individual needs.  If you have not yet completed and returned your survey, please do so.  It’s not too late!

Managing Made Easy with Moodle

Moodle is a "course management system" designed to help create and manage courses using your computer and the Internet.  Such features as quizzes, assignments, lessons, Internet resources, web links, chats, choices, forums, and glossaries are examples of instructional tools available for use with any course.  Moodle is also an excellent communication tool for teachers as well as students and parents.

The technology department is offering various levels of staff development throughout the year.  For those who consider themselves novices, to those who feel comfortable with the program, the department will have something appropriate for all levels.  Please see your buildings' Instructional Technology Resource Teacher in order to learn more about this instructional tool.
