Montgomery County Public Schools Steps Up Efforts to Recruit Highly Qualified Candidates

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) recently instituted several programs and polices to boost recruitment efforts.  The school division is committed to obtaining the most highly qualified employees to serve students in the district.  Some of these efforts include:

·                    Utilizing technology to access the website teacherteacher.org, which allows the human resources department to download applications from across the nation and allows administrators to search for applicants from their office or home computer.

·                    A student teacher dinner and dialogue session hosted by the superintendent on May 5.  Principals in the school division have selected the highest performing student teachers in their schools.  The superintendent will be meeting with the identified student teachers to discuss opportunities within the school division and distribute applications.

·                    Giving highly qualified applicants “intent to hire” offers rather than having them wait until the full contract process is completed.

·                    Redesigned advertisements for employment, which are now creatively written to target candidates with experience in diversity.

·                    A meeting in which the superintendent will speak to student teaching graduates at local universities in an attempt to recruit highly qualified staff.  The superintendent will share opportunities available in the school division.
