Students at Shawsville Middle
School to Participate in Archeological Dig
Drs. Steven and Kim McBride, archeologists from the University of Kentucky Archeology Survey Team, have extended a unique opportunity to identified gifted and talented students in the seventh and eighth grades at Shawsville Middle School. The McBride’s and their archeology staff will be working on an archeology dig at Fort Vause on May 13-15, 2006. The students have been invited to join the archeologists to experience a dig first hand. Students who are attending will be required to read a set of brief, informational excerpts dealing with archeology prior to beginning work. The invitation was extended thanks in large part to Laree Hinshelwood, who has worked with the McBride’s and their staff during a prior excavation of Fort Vause, which is part of the Hinshelwood estate.
