Montgomery County Public Schools Exhibit Excellence in Music By Receiving Virginia Honor Band Status and Blue Ribbon Awards

Blacksburg High School, Christiansburg High School, and Blacksburg Middle School recently received Blue Ribbon Awards from the Virginia Music Educators Association (VMEA) for both the top choir and the top bands receiving superior ratings at concert festival.  The BHS band and the madrigal choir both received superior ratings; the CHS band and the chamber ensemble choir both received superior ratings; and the BMS advanced band and the Bel Canto choir all received superior ratings.  The Blue Ribbon Award is won when the top performing ensembles in each music field (chorus, band, orchestra) at a given school receive a superior or “I” rating at their respective festival events.

The BHS band and the CHS band were also recently named Virginia Honor Bands.  Bands achieving honor band status must demonstrate comprehensive success in the areas of concert and marching band performance.  The BHS and CHS bands have earned the honor band award through superior ratings received at the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association (VBODA) State Marching Band Festival as well as the VBODA district festival in which they participated.
