Montgomery County Public Schools Continues Facilities Improvements

Montgomery County Public Schools continues to focus on providing a safe, comfortable learning environment for students as evidenced by several facility projects currently underway in the district.  The school division is in the process of designing a new Blacksburg High School stadium after completing stadium projects at Auburn High School, Christiansburg High School, and Eastern Montgomery High School last year.  Beginning in 2007, the school district will begin air conditioning projects at Auburn High School, Shawsville Middle School, Belview Elementary School, Christiansburg Elementary School, Gilbert Linkous Elementary School, Margaret Beeks Elementary School, and Price’s Fork Elementary School, all non-air conditioned schools.  New windows were installed and other improvements made in these schools during 2005.  “My goal is to work to get air conditioning installed before the 2007 school year.  The School Board and the Board of Supervisors has been working collaboratively to make needed improvements to school facilities,” said Superintendent Dr. Tiffany Anderson.

“Our goal is to provide students with the best possible facilities and services in addition to an outstanding education.  The improvements to facilities during 2005-2006 further demonstrate that focus.  We have also requested that full-time nurses be funded for middle schools this year to enable us to continue to provide a safe, positive school environment for every child.  Our School Board is truly committed to providing a world-class education for students,” added Dr. Anderson.
