Auburn Middle School has received $2,543 from the Food Lion
Charitable Foundation. The school has used the gift to purchase Standards
of Learning (SOL) preparation books to assist students and teachers in raising
SOL test scores. Research within the county had identified that other
county middle schools saw significant improvements in SOL scores when they used
the specialized SOL preparation books.
Established in 2001, the Food Lion Charitable Foundation
provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to
improving the communities in which Food Lion operates. The foundation
places an emphasis on the support of primary and secondary education, feeding
the hungry, and organizations that enhance the quality of life in Food Lion's
local communities.
"It is wonderful to see a national corporation give
back to the local community in which they reside. There is no better way
to do this than to advance the education of students within the
community. I know I represent all parents, students and staff when I
express our gratitude to Food Lion and the Food Lion Charitable Foundation for
this amazing gift, said Angela Scott, President of the Auburn Middle School
Parent Teacher Organization.
