Schools Will Sponsor a Community Safety Forum on November 15
MCPS will sponsor a community safety forum on November 15, 2006 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Christiansburg Middle School. Some of the presenters at the safety forum include:
Dr. Van Patten, a psychologist who leads the Criminal Justice Department at Radford University, will speak about staying safe from predators and will share information about the profiles of predators.
Representatives from the Women’s Resource Center will present information and share resources for women.
Members of the fire and police departments will distribute information and safety materials.
Dr. Russell T. Jones, a national presenter from Virginia Tech who is currently working with President Bush regarding Hurricane Katrina, will share information about the REACT program.
Emergency planners and school staff will discuss emergency preparation and school crisis plans.
“The forum was scheduled because students are our focus and their safety is our priority. Our goal is to empower families with information and to gain feedback on safety to enable the school division to be responsive in making any necessary improvements,” said Dr. Tiffany Anderson, Superintendent.
Families are encouraged to attend. Teachers will provide activities for children while parents attend sessions.
