Blacksburg High School Teacher Builds Student
Connections
Phil Beever, building trades teacher, recently spent much of his weekend
involved in a project with students from his classes at Blacksburg High School. Mr. Beever and his students
completed a ramp for Patrick Day. Throughout this project, the students worked
side by side never losing their focus of helping their fellow classmate.
Patrick’s home will now be accessible to Patrick upon his return from the
hospital due to their efforts. Patrick’s stroke in his spinal cord left him
paralyzed. Therefore, Patrick essentially could not have entered his home
without this modification.
Superintendent Tiffany Anderson said, “Learning often takes place outside the
classroom walls, and this is a wonderful lesson in building those student
connections.”
