WELCOME TO
FIFTH GRADE!
During the fifth grade year, students are encouraged to work independently and to develop a strong sense of responsibility. In math, we will place a strong emphasis on decimals, fractions, and geometry. In language arts, we focus on strengthening reading comprehension skills and work on the development of comprehensive writing skills. In social studies, we focus primarily on Virginia history. In science, we lead explorations into the fields of biology, chemistry, earth science, and physics. We also focus on developing strong computer skills.
