Welcome to Auburn Elementary School's

Music Home Page

The music program at Auburn Elementary strives to ensure that each student has a positive experience in the musical classroom setting.  We hope to instill a desire within the students to make music a part of their lives, giving them a sense of confidence in becoming active participants, listeners, and consumers of music for their lifetime.  Students are given the opportunity to participate in singing songs, playing a variety of rhythmic, melodic, and harmonic instruments, and learning folk dances in a variety of styles and cultures.  This helps to create an understanding of how music is influenced by major historical events.  From these classroom experiences, students are given opportunities to participate as a performer which may be presented to the public.

Children are taught to read musical notation and understand the meaning of basic symbols and terminology.  Creativity is encouraged, and given specific guidelines, students are able to compose and/or improvise short musical pieces.  Through guided listening, we strive to develop in each student the ability to compare musical styles of the different time periods and composers within those time periods.  They also articulate an informed opinion using appropriate music terminology.  Our hope would e that each student would continue to develop this ability for any music they encounter in their lifetime.
