Register for the SAT online at www.collegeboard.com. Students who register online will no longer
receive an Admission Ticket in the mail.
Instead, they will need to print out the Confirmation and Admission
Ticket from their Web registration.
Picture identification is required on the day of the
SAT. For students who do not have a
photo identification card or passport, schools may provide such ID by
completing a Student ID form. It must be
printed on school stationery, a photo must be attached, the school seal must be
placed to overlap the photo, and the document must be signed in the presence of
a school official. Plan ahead to see Ms.
Peters if you will need this form of identification.

Seniors who still plan to apply
to four-year colleges or to community college should not wait any longer to
apply. The admission deadline for many
colleges has passed and those schools on rolling admissions are already filling
the freshmen class. At

Scholarships
Gates Millennium
Scholars Program – This
scholarship is for students who have significant financial needs and strong
leadership capabilities. The Program
will select one thousand students per year to receive this important
scholarship.Students are eligible to be considered if they:

are African
American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American, or
Hispanic American;
·
are a

have a minimum
unweighted GPA of 3.3;
·
will be enrolling
for the first time at a
·
have demonstrated
leadership abilities;
·
meet the Federal
Pell Grant eligibility criteria

2008 Sam Walton Community (Wal-Mart) Scholarship - The Community Scholarship
is a non-renewable
$1,000 award for the first year of undergraduate study at an approved
accredited college
or university. To qualify, a student
must be a graduating high school senior and may not be a Wal-Mart or Sam's Club
associate, or the child or legal dependent of a Wal-Mart or Sam's Club associate. The application is available online
at www.walmartfoundation.org. The application deadline is January 14, 2008.
National Association of Federal Education Program
Administrators Scholarship -
The purpose of this
scholarship program is to financially support post-secondary education for
qualifying seniors or high school graduates who are attending their first
year of
college. NAFEPA offers three (3)
different scholarships: (1) Stanley J.
McFarland; (2) John A. Pfaff; and (3) Iva McCants. Each of the three scholarship grants is
$1,500. Application packets are
available in Guidance. Completed application packets must be returned to Ms. Peters no
later than January 25, 2008.
Virginia Tech Pamplin Scholarship for Virginians - This $1,000 scholarship is given
to one senior from
each high school in
is eligible to apply
for this scholarship. From the pool of
Pamplin Leaders, students
can compete for a
full tuition scholarship for sophomore through junior years. Applications are available in Guidance. Deadline is February 1, 2008.
Commitment to Agriculture Scholarship – One-time awards of $1,500 will be made
to 100 high school seniors who plan to pursue a career in an
agriculture-related field. Applications
are available online at www.monsanto.com
or www.nafb.com. All applications must be submitted no later
than February 15th.
Gloria Wille Bell and Carlos R. Bell Scholarship
– This scholarship program will provide $80,000 over four years of
undergraduate study to students selected from the
Society of
February 22, 2008.
Virginia Golf Foundation Scholarship - Eligibility criteria for this scholarship
include academic achievement, an interest in golf (skill level not important),
citizenship, character and financial need.
Applications are available in Guidance. The application deadline is February 29, 2008.
Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, Inc. –
The foundation provides scholarship assistance to deserving sons and daughters,
or grandchildren of current or former United States Marines. Additional information and application
criteria are available in Guidance. The
deadline for applications is April
16th.
Morrow-Stevens Foundation – This is a private
charitable organization whose purpose is to provide college scholarships that
include tuition, fees, room and board, and a book stipend. These need-based scholarships are limited to
The John R. Lillard Scholarship Program - The Virginia Airport Operators Council is sponsoring a scholarship for a high school senior who has a minimum
3.75 unweighted GPA, is planning a career in the field of
aviation, and has been accepted into an aviation related program at an
accredited college. Applicants must
submit an essay “Why I Wish to Pursue a Career in Aviation.” Additional information and application
requirements are available in Guidance.
The deadline for receipt of completed application packets is February 20, 2008.
Willard G. Plentl Aviation Scholarship – The
Virginia Department of Aviation is sponsoring a $1,000 scholarship to a

The 2008 Community Foundation of the
The Community Foundation is active in developing scholarship
funds to support
university or post high school vocational institution.
How to Apply for a Community Foundation Scholarship
Step 1
Complete the Free Application for
Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This for
should be available in the Guidance Office in December.
Step 2
Send a copy of the Student Aid
Report (SAR) to the Community Foundation as
soon as it is received from the
FAFSA.
Note: Students
who do not file a financial aid form with FAFSA and send a copy of
the SAR to the
Community Foundation will not be considered for a scholarship.
Step 3
Contact the colleges to which you
are applying to see if they require you to complete
additional financial aid forms. Pay close attention to deadlines!
Step 4
Fill out the Community Foundations
scholarship application form and indicate for which
scholarship(s) you would like to
