Hello!

I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with this year's 6th grade students.

A little bit about me......

Grew up in Northern Virginia in what was at the time a small town called Woodbridge
Earned my Bachelor's Degree from James Madison University
Came to Virginia Tech for my Master's Degree in Counseling and have been working in the New River Valley ever since
Was a juvenile probation officer and the children's counselor at a shelter for women and children before I started working in education
Love to play soccer and have coached the sport for many years - at the recreational, club and high school levels
Am married and have 2 children who attend school in Christiansburg
Love to be outside with my family - hiking, kayaking, caving, playing, you name it!
Enjoy going to watch sports - VT football, basketball, soccer, baseball and Salem Avalanche are some of my favorites!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the beach !!! (This will be obvious from the moment you step into my office)
Am a huge animal lover - we have 4 dogs (one of them with only 3 legs), a rabbit, a turtle, and a fish.  We'd have more if we had the room......

Having been a high school guidance counselor provides me the perspective of knowing what this year's 8th graders can expect as they prepare to move on to the next level.  This helps me prepare students academically, with information on study and test taking skills, career and college planning, and course selection; socially, with a little guidance on friendships and problem solving and navigating interpersonal relationships; personally, with help on decision making, goal setting and motivation; and other issues as they arise.  I really enjoy working with this age group and am looking forward to a successful school year!

Go Titans!!!
