I grew up in
Georgia and received a B.A. in early childhood education from Oglethorpe University
in Atlanta. I taught first and second grade for four years in Atlanta City Schools,
and then my husband and I moved to a remote Eskimo village in Alaska for a year.
There I taught middle school reading, math, and K-12 technology; supervised
the computer lab; and co-coached girls' volleyball with my husband.
My husband, Willy, and I moved to Blacksburg ten years ago, and I taught first and second grade again for ten years in Roanoke County. I received my master's degree in curriculum and instruction for elementary education from Virginia Tech, and I am currently taking classes toward a Ph.D. in literacy and reading. Willy is an education professor at Concord University.
We have a black and white fuzzball cat named Banjo who loves to fetch toy mice and sleep on my pillow. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, hiking, taking pictures, and scrap booking. I am excited about being closer to home and trying a new grade level. I am sure that I will be learning as much as my students this year!
