Playground Safety Rules           

Play only in areas designated by the teacher.
Cooperate and use your words to settle disagreements.
Use equipment as it is meant to be used.
WALK in all mulched areas.
Tag should only be played in grassy areas of the field.
Picnic shelter, rocks, bridge and wooded area are off-limits.

Large Playground Equipment
IT IS UNSAFE to jump from the platforms to reach the middle
of the bars, or to jump from the platforms to the ground.

Slides
One person at a time, on back or bottom, with feet first.
IT IS UNSAFE to walk up the slides, wait inside them, or block them.

Swings
Only one person per swing, seated, and facing the building.
Students may not push one another in the swings.
IT IS UNSAFE to jump from the swing while it is in motion.

Pull-Up Bars
Used for pull-ups or flex-arm hangs only.
IT IS UNSAFE for students to sit/stand, hang upside down,
or flip on the bars.

Monkey Bars
Use to develop upper body strength by moving
hand to hand across the bars.
IT IS UNSAFE to hang by legs or feet from the bars.

Fireman’s Pole
Use only with direct adult supervision.
Students should climb and slide down slowly.
IT IS UNSAFE to jump from the middle of the pole or
to hang from the top.
 


 

Teacher Guidelines for Playground Supervision
Teams should work together so that there is at least one
teacher for every two classes on the playground.
Teachers should position themselves near students
under their direct supervision.
Students should be supervised at all times while on the playground.
The recommendation is that there should be no more than
50 students on the equipment at a time.
