Greetings. My name is Jason Garretson and I am pleased to serve as your principal at Christiansburg Elementary School. I joined the staff in 2006.

I attended Concord College in West Virginia, and then earned a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction at Radford University. I completed my administrative endorsement through the University of Virginia. I taught elementary special education and 8th grade social studies prior to accepting an administrative position in northern Virginia. My wife and I returned to the New River Valley to be closer to family. We live in Christiansburg with our young son.

I am excited to be working with your family. Elementary school is an important time in your child's development; there is a great sense of wonderment and a flowering love for learning. At the same time, we are closely monitoring academic progress to quickly identify and address learning deficiencies. And of course, as third, fourth, and fifth graders, our students will face a substantial battery of SOL tests at the end of the year. My goal is to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and community partners to provide educational opportunities that appropriately balance the needs of our students - both their academic and social needs. We want CES to be where your child WANTS to be.
