I
am thrilled to be a part of the CES family. It is a close and
supportive community of faculty and staff, and students and their
families. Last year I taught for six months in two long term fifth
grade substitute positions in Montgomery County, one of which included
CES. It was a fulfilling experience to be the teacher of such terrificstudents.
Blacksburg has been my home since 1981, when I left Alexandria,
Virginia to pursue my biology degree at Virginia Tech. I learned that
my family came to this area in the early 1770's, so Montgomery County
has always felt like home to me. I rehabilitated wildlife for many
years, but returned to VT and earned my Master's of Arts in Curriculum
and Instruction in 2006. I have recently been certified as a Virginia
Master Naturalist and I enjoy native plants and wildlife. I have two
sons who are in middle school and we are fortunate to have my mother
living with us. Although I do not rehabilitate wildlife at this time,
our family includes three rambunctious cats (Blade, Elvis, and
Snowflake), a lovely dog named Belle, and two old birds (Gilbert the
Cordon Bleu Finch and Gracie the Diamond Dove).
