The CHS Blue Demon Marching Band

The CHS Blue Demon Marching Band is a competitive band. The marching season runs from August to the end of the football season. For two weeks in August, the band has Band Camp at the school. This is where marching fundamentals are taught as well as the field show for the season. Once school begins, the band rehearses two days per week after school.

The Blue Demons perform at every home football game and selected away games. They also compete at local competitions during the months of September and October. The Marching Band participates in local area events such as the Christiansburg Elementary "Back to School" Parade, the Homecoming and Christmas Parades, the Veterans' Day Ceremony in Dublin--honoring the men and women in the Armed Forces--and the Christiansburg Lions Club Veterans' Day parade and wreath laying ceremony.

The Drum Major

Each spring band members interested in being drum major go through a rigorous three day audition process to determine their ability to lead the Blue Demon Marching Band. During the three day audition process candidates are instructed in the areas of leadership, conducting, score preparation, vocal projection, and fundamental techniques for teaching marching band members. After the candidates complete their training they are required to perform for a panel of judges including the director.

The judges score the drum major candidates in each of several catagories. Candidates are also asked to respond to several questions from the panel and are scored based on their response.
