Frequently Asked Questions

How often may I visit the CMS Library?

Students visit with their English classes every three weeks. However, if you love to read and would like to visit the library more often, you are welcome! A note from your teacher is required before visiting the library outside of regularly scheduled times.

How many books am I allowed to check out?

You are allowed to check out up to three books at a time. If you have any overdue books, you are not allowed to check out additional books until your overdue books are returned.

How do I find books in the library?

To locate a book in the library you will need to use Spectrum, the online library catalog. The Spectrum database is accessed under courseware and is available on all computers in the library. You simply type in the name of the book, the author or search by keyword or subject. If you have questions, just ask Mrs. Ratcliff or Mrs. Fernandez.

Are computers available for student use, other than looking up library books?

Computers in the library are available for student use. You must have an Internet Permission form on file to use the Internet. Again, you need permission from your teacher to visit the library. The note should state that you need to use a computer and why you need to use the computer.

Am I allowed to use the computer for games or to check my email account?

Students may not use the school computers for personal use. They should only be used for school related work. Games are not allowed unless it is a teacher directed activity (BrainPop, SOLpass, etc.). You are not allowed to use school computers to check your email accounts, or any other personal accounts. If you have questions, refer to the Internet Use Policy you received at the beginning of the year, or ask your teacher or librarian.

What about social networking sites?

You may not use computers to access any social networking sites including Myspace, Facebook, etc. In fact, you must be a minimum age to establish an account on most of these sites.
