October 23, 2007 Dear Parents and Families, It has been quite a while since I have written a note and for that I apologize. There are some events that I need to remind you about and some information I need to share. First of all, I hope you have signed up to receive the PTA email. Melissa Woolwine and Janet Spencer have worked very hard to gather information about CMS events and make that information available to you. Contact Diane Fenton and she can put you in touch with them. The first six weeks has passed and we have had many students make our honor roll. I hope you have scheduled conferences with you child's teachers and that they have been in touch with you concerning your child's academic progress. The next interim reports will be given October 25 and grades will end on November 16. Next week, October 29 and 30, the State Department of Education Academic Review Team will be visiting with us to check the status of our School Improvement Plan. They will also be observing math classes and reviewing math textbooks and resources. The faculty and staff have completed a climate survey which will also be given the review team. I would like to have some parents complete the survey; if you are willing to do so, please let me know. On another note, the rules for Hallowe'en Dress are: the costumes must be in accordance with the dress code; no toy weapons or look-a-like accessories will be allowed; no chains; no masks; face painting must be done at home; no paint will be allowed in the school. Thanks again for helping with attendance. We have been averaging between 95 and 96 percent until yesterday and today. I believe the stomach virus has invaded many of us. Save November 16! While your children will be at a Sock Hop, you may join us for a Principal's Coffee during which time the Counselors will be presenting a program designed to give you information about some activities that are becoming increasingly popular with some of our children,i.e. the Passing Out Game. The meeting will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thanks again for all you do for us. As always, Annette Perkins |
