| It is a great blessing to be a teacher of music! I work with all of the CPS children except Preschool and 4 First Grade classes. How lucky I am to get to see almost the whole school and have them sing, dance, and play instruments with me! The other 4 First Grade classes work with Mr. Young who was once my student teacher. This is his third year of teaching music in our school system. His home school is Prices Fork and he also has a few classes at Auburn Elementary. He plays clarinet really well. Another former student teacher of mine is Mr. Lewis. This is my 23rd year of teaching music in school...and this makes my 18th year at CPS. I earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Music Education K-12 as a Music Specialist from Radford College (University) and a Master of Science degree in Developmental Reading as a Reading Specialist from Longwood College (University). I have taught music in all levels from K through 12th grade. My experience has also included teaching reading, home bound, and being a substitute. I have conducted adult, youth, and children's choirs as well as been an accompanist on organ and piano. My main instruments that I play are piano and organ. Besides my school job, I have two others. I have an at home piano studio where I teach piano lessons in the evenings and I am a church organist. In my spare time I crochet.......especially loving to crochet baby hats, booties, jackets, and blankets. I am happily married (for 33 years) to a man that I met in |
