Elementary Textbook Adoption |

In June 2010, the VDOE initiated the state mathematics
textbook review process. The final list of approved
textbooks is scheduled to be approved this fall, and MCPS
will adopt a K-5 program from the VDOE's approved list. The
time line for our process is outlined below: |

September 2010 - The MCPS K-5 Review
Committee will analyze the textbooks on the VDOE's approved
list to assess their alignment with the 2009 Standards of Learning
for Mathematics. This committee will then recommend textbooks for full review by
the MCPS K-5 Adoption Committee. |

October 2010 - Textbook samples
will be delivered to schools and made available for public
and teacher review. |

November 2010 - The MCPS K-5 Adoption
Committee, including representatives from all MCPS
elementary schools, will review and evaluate textbooks and
make a consensus recommendation for adoption of a K-5
mathematics program. |

December 2010 - January 2011 -
Recommendation made to MCPS School Board. |
|
January 2011 - Pending board
approval of the recommended program, begin curriculum
development to support the implementation of the newly adopted
materials in the 2011-12 academic year. |
|
July 2011 - Pending the
availability of funds, purchase K-5 materials for use
beginning in August 2011. |
