Democracy:
The Promise and Responsibilities
of Citizenship
MCPS, in partnership
with Virginia Tech’s Departments of History and Teaching and Learning,
and the Virginia Historical Society proposes to increase teacher
knowledge and raise student achievement scores in traditional American
history by offering a comprehensive, thematic professional development
program for K-12 teachers of American history.
The dates for the History Monthly lectures are below. They will
take place at the new Christiansburg Middle School
from 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. (In the event of a change in schedule, we
will notify all participants as soon as possible. Inclement weather has
impacted our schedule in the past, so please be aware of this
possibility.)

Summer Conference at VT
(and field trips) are
scheduled for the week of July 19-23, 2010.

Introducing Moodle Resource Rooms
This program will
offer three levels of participation to meet varying teacher needs:

Level I:
Activities each year will include a one-day lecture/workshop
(Nov. staff development day), ongoing mentoring, and
two
evening history lectures. ($50 stipend) |

Level II:
Activities each year will include a one-day lecture/workshop and
will attend at least four evening sessions selecting from
lectures, film festivals or mini-series seminar. ($250 stipend) |

Level III:
Activities each year will include a one-day lecture/workshop,
seven evening sessions selecting from lectures, film festivals,
seminars, mini-series or seminar series
and a week-long summer
history conference
which can include local and state field trips.
($500 stipend) |
Recertification
points will be awarded based on participation.
