Lending Librarygirl in library

Over the years we have accumulated an excellent library of materials that are available for loan to families in our area. In addition to a large number of books, we also have many DVDs and VHS tapes as well as magazines. The materials we have available reflect the interest of our patrons:

Parenting

Because our children with special needs are children first and foremost, we have a lot of materias about parenting kids in general: Parenting toddlers, parenting teens, toiletting, etc.

Parenting Special Kids

Because some of our kids present special challenges and/or needs at times, we have a variety of materials that are specific to various disabilites.

Dealing with Challenging Behaviorpushing boy to school

Sometimes our kids use difficult behaviors in order to communicate their unmet needs and as parents we need to develop alternative strategies to cope. Instead of "reinventing the wheel," check out what others have already tried and see if it might help in your situation!

Transition out of Secondary Education

Our kids grow up SO much more quickly than we ever expected! You will be surprised at how soon you will need to plan for life after school! Although this can be scary to think about, it is also crucial. The main difference between school services and services from other community agencies is that whereas school is a mandated service, post-secondary services are based on eligibility. And that means that your child will probably have to go through an eligibility process and end up on waiting lists(s) for certain services.
