kids at flagpole Assistance with Virginia Medicaid Waivers Applications

We can help you apply for these sources of supports for families of persons with significant disabilities and also help with questions you may have. Our office is part of the state-wide Medicaid Mentors group that offers workshops across the state to families and others to help get the word out about the Medicaid Long Term Care Waivers. Waiver funding offers assistance with a variety of supports for those who qualify: assistive technology, personal assistance care, respite for families, etc. And, family income does not count when determining eligibility for Medicaid by means of these waivers.

There are seven different waivers in Virginia currently:

MR/ID Waiver: for persons with Intellectual Disabilities or mental retardation.

Day Support Waiver: for persons on the waiting list for the MR/ID Waiver to attend day support programs.

DD Waiver: for persons with autism, cerebral palsy, other "related conditions." You can download the application form here. It is a pdf file and requires the free Acrobat Reader software. (Complete this simple form and mail it to the nearest Health Department Child Development Clinic--in the New River Valley and Roanoke area send to: Linda Hudgins, Roanoke City Health Dept., 515 8th St.,S.W., Roanoke Va 24016.)

EDCD Waiver: for persons who are disabled and/or elderly and have nursing needs.

AIDS Waiver: for persons with AIDS or AIDS-related complex.

Tech Waiver: for persons who have lost a significant bodily function and require highly technological supports (e.g., ventilator, feeding tube.)

Alzheimer's Assisted Living Waiver: for individuals with Alzheimer's or similar dementia. These individuals would be supported in an institution, probably a nursing home, that is able to care for them safely.
