***Community Foundation of the New River Valley Scholarships are scholarships available for local students.  You can apply for multiple Community Foundation Scholarships by completing ONE application.  However, depending on the scholarship you are applying for you may need to provide additional information.  I strongly encourage you to apply!

1.       Community Foundation of the New River Valley:

 Auxiliary of Radford Community Hospital/CVRVMC Scholarship Fund:

 Qualifications:

  • Applicants pursuing a career in nursing or a  related health profession (excluding those who intend to become physicians)
  • High school graduates or students with a GED
  • Financial need
  • Average or above average academic ability

                Amount:  $1000 (Renewable)

                Application:  Available in Guidance

                Deadline:  Applications due to Guidance by February 6, 2012

 

2.       Community Foundation of the New River Valley:

T. Scott Eaton Scholarship Fund:

Qualifications:

  • Applicants pursuing a post-secondary degree in theater or fine arts
  • Financial need
  • Minimum grade point average of 2.0 or 4.0 scale

Amount:  $500 (Renewable)

Deadline:  Applications are available in Guidance and due by February 6, 2012

3.       Community Foundation of the New River Valley:

Epperly Family Fund

Qualifications:

  • Eastern Montgomery High School students only
  • Applicants pursuing education at a college, university, or post-secondary vocational school
  • Financial need
  • Average academic ability (grade point average should not exceed 3.2 on a 4.0 scale)
  • Preference is given to students employed while in school

Amount:  $500 (Renewable)

Application:  Available in Guidance

Deadline:  Applications due in Guidance by February 6, 2012

 

4.       Community Foundation of the New River Valley:

 Warren Lloyd Holtzman Freedom Scholarship Fund:

Qualifications: 

  • Applicants pursuing education at a college, university  or post-secondary vocational school
  • Financial need
  • Minimum grade point average of 2.5 on 4.0 scale
  • Note: Applicants must submit an additional essay about the benefits to society of personal freedom, initiative, calculated risk-taking and a free enterprise system.  The essay should be no less that 500 words and no more than 2,000 words.

Amount:  $900 for a two-year institution

                    $1,800 for a four-year institution

Deadline:  Applications due in Guidance by February 6, 2012

 

5.       Community Foundation of the New River Valley:

  Allen Mandelstamm Scholarship Fund:

 Qualifications: 

  • High School graduates or students with a GED
  • Applicants pursuing a post-secondary degree at a college/university or post-high school college prep institution
  • Financial need
  • Minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale

Amount:  $1,000 (Renewable)

Application:  Applications available in Guidance

Deadline:  Applications due in Guidance February 6, 2012

 

6.       Community Foundation of the New River Valley:

Marie Mandelstamm Scholarship Fund:

Qualifications: 

  • Applicants pursuing post-secondary degree in the sciences to include math, engineering, biology, and computers
  • Financial need
  • Minimum grade point average of 3.0 on 4.0 scale, especially in the sciences

Amount:  $1,000-2,000 (Renewable)

7.       Community Foundation of the New River Valley:

A.Phillip Meadows Leadership Scholarship:

Qualifications:

  • Applicants pursuing a post-secondary degree at Virginia Tech
  • Financial need
  • Strong Academic achievement
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and strong potential for continued growth and development
  • Active involvement and participation in school, church, and/or community service

Amount:  $500 (Renewable)

Deadline:  Applications due to Guidance by February 6, 2012

 

8.       Community Foundation of the New River Valley:

Adrienne Marie Rhudy Memorial Scholarship Fund:

Qualifications:

  • Applicants pursuing a post-secondary degree at a two or four-year college or university.
  • Demonstrated ability to overcome adversity
  • Minimum grade point average 2.5 on 4.0 scale
  • Note: Applicants must submit an additional essay demonstrating his/her ability to overcome adversity and strengthened thereby. Please title and mention the name of this scholarship in your essay.

Amount:  $1,700 (Renewable)

Deadline:  Applications are due to Guidance by February 6, 2012

 

9.       Community Foundation of the New River Valley:

The Eric E. Sutphin Memorial Scholarship Fund:

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have parent or legal guardian who is a law enforcement officer serving in the New River Valley
  • Applicants pursuing post-secondary education at any college (2 or 4 year), or any university or any accredited vocational or technical program
  • Documented financial need
  • Minimum grade point average of 2.5 on 4.0 scale or equivalent academic achievement

Amount:  $500 (Renewable)

Deadline:  Applications are due in Guidance by February 6, 2012

 

10. Community Foundation of the New River Valley:

 The Wings Fund:

Qualifications:

  • Applicants pursuing education at a college (2 or 4 year), university, or post-secondary vocational school
  • Older and nontraditional students are encouraged to apply
  • Financial need

Amount:  $1000 (Renewable)

11. Lee-Jackson Educational Foundation Scholarship Program

Qualifications:

  • High School junior or senior planning to attend a college or university full-time in Fall 2012-2013
  • Write an essay on General Lee or General Jackson or both

Amount: $2,000 to $1,000

12. Virginia State Bar High School Essay Contest

Qualifications:

  • High School students grade 9-12
  • Write a 1,000 word essay that addresses the hypothetical essay topic found on the web-site that addresses cyberbullying

Amount: $2,300 to $250

Deadline: Must be submitted by February 15, 2012

 

13. GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program

      Qualifications:

  • College-bound seniors who demonstrate leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Financial need

 Amount: $10,000- up to $40,000 in total renewable scholarship

14. Willard G. Plentl Aviation Scholarship Program

 Qualifications:

  • Virginia high school senior planning on aviation career in a non-engineering area- acceptance in program is required
  • GPA of 3.5

Amount: $1,000.00

15. Virginia Airport Operators Council

Qualifications:

  • Virginia high school senior, planning a career in the field of aviation- acceptance in program in required
  • GPA of at least 3.75 unweighted

Amount: $3,000

16. Foundation of Roanoke Valley

Sue Blackwell Scholarship Fund

Qualifications:

  • Be a graduating high school senior
  • Be a participating member for the 2012 swim season of the Roanoke Valley Aquatic Association (RVAA)
  • Enroll in an accredited two or four year institution of higher learning
  • Financial need
  • Essay topic:  Why service to others is important to me.  (Max 500 words)

Amount: $2,000

 17. Foundation of Roanoke Valley

Margaret Jones Irvin Scholarship Fund

Qualifications:

  • Be a Virginia resident
  • Enroll in an accredited two or four year institution of higher learning
  • Financial Need

Amount: $1,000

Deadline: Due to Guidance by February 22, 2012

 

18.  Foundation of Roanoke Valley

Walter M. Otey, III Scholarship Fund

Qualifications:

  • Be a graduating high school senior in Virginia
  • Minimum high school GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale
  • Enroll full-time basis at Roanoke College and either be a music major or perform in one or more of Roanoke College’s recognized choral or instrumental ensembles or Enroll on a full-time basis in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Virginia Tech.
  • Financial need.
  • Write an essay on topic given

Amount: $500

19.  Foundation of Roanoke Valley

The Dianne E.H. Wilcox Scholarship Fund

Qualifications:

  • Be a Virginia resident
  • Enroll full-time in an accredited two or four year college or university

Amount: $1,000
