This class emphasizes basic reading and writing skills designed to increase student ability and ready them for English 10. Grammar, reading comprehension, vocabulary, and spelling are major class components. The writing process will be emphasized to prepare students for English 10 and the English 11 writing SOL test. Students will study world literature. Successful completion earns an elective credit.

English 10 students will become skilled communicators in small-group learning activities. Students will read and critique world literature. They will analyze printed consumer information. Students will critique the writing of peers and professionals, using analysis to improve writing skills.

This class is designed as a feeder class for students planning to take AP English or Dual Enrollment English beginning in their junior year. English 10 Honors students will become skilled communicators in small-group learning activities. Students will read and critique world literature. They will analyze printed consumer information. Students will critique the writing of peers and professionals, using analysis to improve writing skills. Vocabulary studies will focus on preparation for PSAT/SAT examinations.
