SPANISH I

Prerequisite: Satisfactory achievement in English
Spanish I introduces students to the Spanish language and culture through the development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. The focus of speaking is to give ample practice in communication using short questions, statements, or formulae. The focus of reading is to develop the student's ability to comprehend essential information in written material incorporating previously learned vocabulary and structures. The focus of writing provides students with sufficient opportunities to write limited memorized material including personal and factual information. The focus of culture introduces basic courtesy requirements and non-verbal behaviors found in Spanish speaking countries along with providing concrete facts about each country.

SPANISH II
Credit: 1
Prerequisite: Satisfactory achievement in Spanish I
Spanish II reinforces and expands the student's vocabulary, language structures, and basic skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening which the students began in Spanish I. The student's knowledge of the Spanish language and culture is broadened through increased conversation and composition in Spanish.

SPANISH III
Credit: 1
Prerequisite: Satisfactory achievement in Spanish II
Spanish III finalizes the study of basic grammatical usages and uses authentic and adapted materials to strengthen vocabulary through increased conversation, composition, and reading in the target language. Students increase their awareness of cultural similarities and differences among Spanish-speaking peoples.

SPANISH IV
Credit: 1
Prerequisite: Satisfactory achievement in Spanish III
Spanish IV further reinforces and refines the four linguistic skills of the language by studying authentic literature, developing creative writing techniques, and improving accuracy and appropriateness of verbal communication. The course will be individualized according to the needs of the students enrolled.

SPANISH V
Credit: 1
Prerequisite: Satisfactory achievement in Spanish IV
Offered on request as numbers allow, if student has successfully completed first four years of Spanish.
