Welcome to Gilbert Linkous Elementary School – Home of the Linkous Lizards! Nestled in the town of Blacksburg, Gilbert Linkous Elementary School is a treasure just waiting for you! Inside the walls of Gilbert Linkous you will find students immersed in quality learning activities that strengthen skills, engage imaginations, and promote self-learning. GLE’s dedicated teachers and staff strive to help each child reach his full potential and become a life-long learner. With such close proximity to Virginia Tech, Gilbert Linkous Elementary has students from all over the world! Our diverse population helps everyone appreciate and celebrate our differences. 

 Gilbert Linkous Elementary School has approximately 390 students in Pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. In addition to the core curriculum areas, students receive art, music, computer, and physical education classes weekly. GLE students take advantage of our state’s wonderful history by participating in many field trips around the state. We believe learning comes to life when you experience battlefields first hand, see whales spout, and touch a buffalo! That’s just for starters!

 Gilbert Linkous’ Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) supports the school through volunteer programs, fund-raising, and family activities. Some of our events are Hokie Night, Daddy-Daughter Dance, and International Day. Please help support our school by joining the PTO and participating in any or all of our activities. The more the merrier! We love to see parents at GLE!

 The PTO Beautification Committee was awarded a Master Gardener Grant this past year. The grant was used to purchase bulbs and shrubs for the students to plant. We love for the students to see the flowers bloom in the spring! The Beautification Committee has also painted our front doors, done landscaping, and is planning a fall clean-up day. So, get out those gardening gloves and join in on the fun!

 Our school thrives due to the active involvement of our team members:  students, parents, community, and staff members. GLE’s mission and vision statement created by our parent and teacher Excel team reflect that commitment. Please join our school and community in reaching those goals!
