SOL Bowl and Pep Rally

Third Annual Third-Grade S.O.L. Bowl:
A Winner with the Kids at GLE!

The Third Grade S.O.L. Bowl was developed as a fun and exciting way for the third grade classes to test and review their knowledge of the curriculum. It was a mixture of Classroom Quiz, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, and the Final Four.

Students were randomly selected for places on 16 teams. These teams competed against each other by answering a series of questions as a group. We focused on team work and cooperation during the decision making process. The team with the most correct answers advanced to the next round. The second round was repeated in the same way, until only four teams were left.

The semi-final competition was held in Mr. Guinn's classroom on Monday, April 29, at 11:15. The entire third grade was in attendance. Two teams at a time competed for a spot in the final round. The questions were projected by using a Powerpoint presentation. Each team was asked questions, alternating back and forth. Each team was given three lifelines: 50/50, ask a friend, and poll the audience. For poll the audience, each student was given coordinated color cards with A, B, C, and D on them to hold up when asked. After a tight competition, two teams advanced to the finals.

On Tuesday, April 30, at 1:45 in the multi-purpose room, the final of the Third Grade S.O.L. Bowl was held. Lyndsey and Praveen as well as Caroline and Sherwood made up the two teams that competed. Each team was given questions that were again projected onto a screen from Powerpoint. After a series of questions, Sherwood and Caroline were announced the winners.

The third grade students at Gilbert Linkous Elementary have worked hard this year and are ready for the S.O.L. tests.
