We learn about scientific investigation, the study of force,
motion, energy, and matter. Students also investigate the life
processes of plants and animals. We also study the Earth, the seasons
and natural resources.
In the First Grade, we learn to compare past and present by
studying famous leaders and holidays. We also learn about maps and
globes, American symbols, economics and the organization of the
government.

We use the Every Day Math curriculum, Addison-Wesley Math Program and Math
Their Way program to teach number sense, computation, estimation,
measurement, geometry, graphing, patterns and money.

Novel units, Daily Oral Language, daily journal writing, literary
elements, beginning and fluent reading strategies, spelling and
handwriting are a part of our daily curriculum.

Pandapas Pond, Blue Ridge Bank, Lacey's Pumpkin Farm, Blacksburg Park
and Recreation Nature Center, Montgomery County Public Library, the
Buffalo Farm, and Cultural Enrichment are enjoyed each year.
