Organization:

At Margaret Beeks Elementary, we have four second grade classes with about 21 students in each class. The teachers are Patty Devens, Beth Holbrook, Holly Ross, and Jennifer Salyers.

Curriculum:

We teach thematically by integrating science, social studies, and health with language arts. Novel units are used to both reinforce thematic concepts and to promote literature appreciation.

Math for second graders at Beeks consists of the Everyday Mathematics Program, Daily Math review, and many other literature based, hands-on activities.

Daily parent/teacher communication is an important component in 2nd grade. To foster this, we use "Workfolders" which contain completed work, daily reminders, reading logs, and behavior notes.
