The third grade team consists of Karen Hudson, Kelly Linkenhoker, Marjorie Peterson, and Amanda Poff
The third grade is a transitional year between the developmental focus of kindergarten through second grade and the more intense academic focus of grades four and five.
SOCIAL STUDIES:
Map & Globe Skills, Economics, Exploration of America, Government, Ancient Greece, Rome and Mali, Biographies of Famous Americans, and Rights and Responsibilities.
SCIENCE:
Scientific investigation, Reasoning and Logic, Living Organisms and Animal Adaptations, Living Systems, Endangered Species, World Biomes, Animal and Plant Life Cycles, Soil, Matter, Energy, Forces, Simple Machines, Water Cycle, and Relationships of Life on Earth.
MATH:
The math program used is Everyday Mathematics, the countywide adopted math program. This program was developed by the University of Chicago to improve the way math is taught.
LANGUAGE ARTS:
Shared and Guided Reading, Novel Units & Literary Elements, Anthologies from the Houghton Mifflin series: Horizons & Rewards, Book Clubs, Reader's & Writer's Workshops, Response Writing, Thought Journals, Word Study, Various Literature Genres: Mysteries, Historical Fiction, Science Fiction, Biographies, Autobiographies, and Folk Tales
TECHNOLOGY:
Computer availability in all classrooms, Internet Research, On-site Computer Lab
FIELD TRIPS:
Science Museum of Southwest Virginia, Theater Productions, University Concerts, and trips for learning opportunities as they arise.
