Elementary Counseling Program
1) Counseling
Individual students have an opportunity to explore issues of concern in a positive educational setting, by:
setting goals
considering choices and consequences
monitoring
Small groups are available to discuss common concerns such as:
friendship
personal strengths
study skills
grief
family changes
Attention Deficit Disorder
2) Classroom Guidance
Classroom guidance is part of the school curriculum. It includes lessons targeting educational, personal, and social development. It is:
proactive in nature
for all students
developmental
based on Virginia Standards of Learning
3) Consulting
Counselors consult with teachers to enhance the total development of children.
Counselors consult with parents to promote positive home/school relationships, and to facilitate the counseling of individual students.
Counselors consult with other school specialists to provide the most appropriate educational services for individual children.
4) Coordinating
Counselors work cooperatively with administrators, teachers, parents, and commumnity agencies to better serve the needs of children.
Counselors develop and oversee programs and activities that: enhance students' school experience, and highlight students' strengths.
