SHELTER

 

Both New River Family Shelter and The Women's Resource Center of the New River Valley offer emergency shelter for individuals and families experiencing homelessness throughout the New River Valley.  The Women's Resource Center serves women and children who are victims of domestic and sexual violence; New River Family Shelter serves families who are currently homeless, yet are not experiencing family violence.  A brief description of each agency and contact information is included on this page.  Please visit each agency's webpage for detailed descriptions of programs and services.

 

New River Family Shelter

New River Family Shelter (NRFS) provides safe, emergency and transitional shelter to families experiencing homelessness.  Families receive supportive services which promote self sufficiency and stability.  NRFS currently operates 6 shelter spaces (3 in Blacksburg, 1 in Christiansburg, and 1 in Shawsville).  Intake and eligibility are done through New River Community Action in Christiansburg.  Carol Johnson, Executive Director of NRFS, is the contact person for this agency czjohnson@naxs.net .

The Women's Resource Center of the New River Valley

The Women's Resource Center of the New River Valley offers both shelter and supportive services to women and children who are victims of domestic and sexual violence in Floyd, Giles, Montgomery, Pulaski and Radford.  Their emergency shelter can accommodate 26 women and children.  For information, crisis intervention, or shelter requests please call this 24-hour crisis hotline:  540-639-1123; toll-free:  800-788-1123.
