SMS Counseling Department:                                                                    

• Counsels students on academics, career, and personal/social issues
• Refers students to outside counseling agencies such as

·         New River Valley Community Services

·         MCPS Homeless Center

·         ACCESS – Crisis Intervention

·         Women’s Resource Center      

• Coordinates SOL Testing
• Assists students in applying for alternative placements
• Chairs the bully prevention program
• Coordinates advisory program
• 504 Coordinator
• Coordinates parent/teacher conferences
• Provides student scheduling and placement
• Runs small-group counseling groups
• Chairs the School/Community Relations Team
• Attendance Specialist
