Language Arts SOL's in brief:
Oral Language:
LA 7.1 The student will seek and give information in conversations and group discussions.
LA 7.2 The student will identify the relationship between a speaker's verbal and  nonverbal messages.
LA 7.3 The student will identify persuasive messages in nonprint media, such as TV, radio, and films.
Reading/Literature:
LA 7.4 The student will use analogies, idioms, similes, and metaphors to extend understanding of word meanings.
LA 7.5 The student will read a variety of literature.
LA7.6 The student will read and understand information from a variety of sources such as magazines and newspapers.
LA 7.7 The student will read a variety of poetry.
Writing:
LA 7.8 The student will develop narrative, expository, persuasive, and technical writings.
LA 7.9 The student will use a word processor to plan, draft, revise, and publish some writings.
Research:
LA 7.10 The student will apply knowledge of resources in preparing written and oral presentations.
There is no set curriculum to follow. We draw from a literature anthology, trade books, work books, and student writings. In seventh grade we attempt to incorporate language arts SOLS into the social studies curriculum wherever possible.
