The
Victorian era refers to the period of Queen Victoria's rule between 1837
and 1901. This time period is marked by the British Industrial Revolution, but
important historical events were taking place all over the world. People
during this time period witnessed everything from the invention of baseball to
the formation of powerful labor unions, and from the first woman doctor to the
granting of U.S. citizenship to African Americans. New inventions and
technologies revolutionized the way people traveled, communicated and earned a
living. It was a time of tremendous change and must have been a difficult, but
exciting time to be alive.
