CONTENT TARGET : INTERDISCIPLINARY UNIT WITH SOCIAL STUDIES
CONTENT SOL’s : The student will
7.6 read and understand information from varied sources.
7.9 use a word processor to plan, draft, revise, and publish some writings.
7.10 apply knowledge of resources in preparing written and oral presentation.

C/T 8.1 : The student will communicate through application software.

Using ClarisWorks Word Processing ( or a similar application) , the student will complete assignments in both LA and SS on assigned topics such as a particular era or theme.

C/T 8.2 : The student will communicate through networks and telecommunications.

Using Internet sources student will gather information on their selected topics.

C/T 8.3 : The student will have a basic understanding of computer processing, storing, and retrieval of digital information.

C/T 8.4 : The student will process, store, retrieve, and transmit electronic information.

Students will prepare assignments saving them to hard drive and/or disk, and retrieving that work for future use for editing purposes.


Students may want to prepare a slide show of works accomplished as part of an interdisciplinary unit.

Using ClarisWorks Word Processing , student will compose and edit an evaluation of a sales pitch on the Internet.
Write an ad for a product which could be sold by Internet services.

C/T 8.2 : The student will communicate through networks and telecommunications.

Using the Internet student will locate examples of different types of persuasion such as bandwagon ( everyone is doing it).

C/T 8.3 : The student will have a basic understanding of computer processing, storing, and retrieval of digital information.

Discuss advantages / disadvantages of transmission technology and using the Internet as a sales tool.

C/T 8.4 : The student will process, store, retrieve, and transmit electronic information. Use the Internet to search for examples of persuasion. Discuss why a site tells you how many visitors have been there. Discuss ways to distinguish fact from opinion. Interact with sites as appropriate.

Content Target : A novel panel group charged with the following assignments. Content SOL’s : The student will
7.5 read a novel to discover elements of fiction
7.8 develop the writing process
7..9 use the word processor to make a usable set of speech notes

C/T 8.1 : The student will communicate through application software.

Each panel member In 150 words or less will retell and important event in the story.

Using a spreadsheet application list 5 major events and tell what caused each to happen. This should be in a two column application.

C/T 8.2 : The student will communicate through networks and telecommunications.

Create a map or locate on a map from the Internet where the action of the story takes place.

Use travelogues on the Internet to get ideas for a postcard sent by the main character to you.

C/T 8.3 : The student will have a basic understanding of computer processing, storing, and retrieving of digital information.
C/T 8.4 : The student will process, store , retrieve, and transmit electronic information.

Plan a two minute speech on the novel or on information discovered in the creation of the map and the postcard. Use word processing to create a usable set of speech notes.
