Please join us for our first
MCPS Wellness hike!

Climb Buffalo Mountain in Floyd County on Saturday, October 24, 2009,  anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.  The hike is a short, steep one-mile trek on a well-built trail.  This event will coincide with the Buffalo Showcase event where the Dept. of Conservation & Recreation staff will be on hand to provide information.  To learn more about Buffalo Mountain, please visit their website.

Driving Directions

Exit onto VA 8 and head south towards Floyd. At Floyd, turn right onto US 221, and follow it about 6 miles. Turn left (south) on 727 (Union School Road) and go about 4.5 miles to Conner Grove Road (VA 799). Turn right onto 799, go about 100 feet and turn left onto Moles Road (VA 727). Go about 1 mile, and turn right to stay on VA 727. Go 1 mile to a 3-way fork. Bear to the right and follow the gravel access road to the summit parking area.

The parking area is small, so you may want to carpool from Moles road or from downtown Floyd.

There is a geocache located on the Buffalo.  Bring your GPS and test your treasure-hunting skills!  More information about geocaching and the lat/long for the cache can be found at http://www.geocaching.com.

Join us in Spring 2010 for a hike to McAfee Knob.
