Brian Light, Senior Custodian at Harding Avenue Elementary School, was named the MCPS Support Staff Employee of the Year. Light has worked for MCPS for 31 years.

Amber Pogue, Chemistry and Ecology teacher at Blacksburg High School, was named the MCPS Teacher of the Year.

MCPS was one of 15 school divisions named as a School Division of Innovation by the Virginia Board of Education. The School Division of Innovation recognition honors school divisions that are designing and implementing alternatives to traditional instructional practices and school structures that improve student learning and promote college and career readiness, and good citizenship.
